Could Gabrielle Union have been plotting on husband Dwyane Wade before being married to him? Fans are starting to speculate that is the case as an article has resurfaced, showing that may have been the case.
For the last six years, the former NBA player and his actress wife have been married, but have been dating since 2008. Prior to dating, the two have each been married; Union was previously married to former NFL player Chris Howard from 2001 to 2005 and divorced due to cheating allegations, while Wade was married to his high school sweetheart Siohvaughn Funches in 2002.
D. Wade would ultimately be granted sole custody of his two children with Funches in 2011. A portion of the 102-page ruling entered by Judge Renee G. Goldfarb read, “This court finds that [Siohvaughn Wade] has embarked on an unstoppable and relentless pattern of conduct for over two years to alienate the children from their father, and lacks either the ability or the willingness to facilitate, let alone encourage, a close and continuing relationship between them.”
During the pair’s separation, Wade met and began dating the “Think Like a Man” actress, and she would immediately receive a bad rap as rumors came about that she broke up the marriage between Wade and his ex-wife. Funches also filed a lawsuit alleging that Union was detrimental to the well-being of her children. She spoke with Jet Magazine at the time to deny the rumors, although she took a while before addressing them.
“I think people mistook me taking the high road as an admission of guilt,” the “Being Mary Jane” star explains. “Dwyane and I made a decision very early to not react to the negativity. And I kept feeling like the truth would come out. The problem is, when it did, nobody cared. What I discovered on social media is that people don’t read the entire story.”
Social media is attempting to rehash the situation, as a past article has resurfaced, and a Twitter user has highlighted a quote from Union as she previously met Wade’s then-wife. In a Fort-Worth Star-Telegram article surrounding D. Wade and Lebron James, a segment was highlighted showing that Funches and Union met previously at an “All-Star Game event in Denver”. The article states Funches arrived at said event without Wade, and upon noticing her, Union approached her and told her, “Tell your husband that I’m a big fan of his.”
Union has previously told ESPN sports that part of the reason she and her husband connected is due to her love of sports, as she grew up participating in various sports. During that time, however, she told Jet in the same interview that she had doubts before moving forward in their relationship. “I did a lot of talking with girlfriends and sorting through my feelings about the madness,” the actress said. “This kind of love is a gift. It’s so consistent. There’s no way that I would trade it for people who refuse to simply acknowledge the truth.”
Fans have had a lot to say on the matter as some are commenting on the matter. “She wild as hell lol”, writes one user on Twitter while another chimed in saying, “New earned respect for a determined Queen,” in support of her ending up marrying the basketball star.
