The award for “Most Dysfunctional Couple in Hip-Hop” could easily be given to Clifford “T.I.” Harris and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Harris. Ever since the pair said “I Do” and joined together in what should be a lifelong union, they haven’t necessarily waited “til death” for them to part.
The couple has been on-again, off-again, since walking down the aisle in July of 2010. A few times their marriage almost ended in divorce when Xscape member Tiny filed for divorce before the two would eventually reconcile. Six years into their marriage, she filed for divorce after numerous accounts of infidelity, as well as accusations that she had an affair with Floyd Mayweather.
Months after the filing, speculations arose that the two were getting back together, especially when it was reported that they spent Christmas together as a family. “I have a feeling they will get back together . . . I think she did this to stop his shenanigans . . . Earlier this year he . . . was very public with a side chick named [Analicia Chaves, a k a] Ana Montana,” an insider told Page Six at the time.
After reconciling, they would still suffer from rumors of infidelity on the rapper’s part. He didn’t make it any better for himself with a post that he shared on Instagram containing a Fox News article that discussed why men don’t feel motivated to enter into marriage. “Because there’s nothing in it for them: What exactly does marriage offer men today? ‘Men know there’s a good chance they’ll lose their friends, their respect, their space, their sex life, their money and — if it all goes wrong — their family,” the article mentioned, as written by Helen Smith, Ph.D. author of “Men on Strike. “They don’t want to enter into a legal contract with someone who could effectively take half their savings, pension, and property when the honeymoon period is over. Men aren’t wimping out by staying unmarried or being commitment-phobes. They’re being smart. Unlike women, men lose all power after they say ‘I do. Their masculinity dies, too.”
T.I.’s response to the article, which he posts in the caption, caused many to lash out at him, including his wife. “Just found some info out there from @nay6ah60d_neal I thought I’d share… and mind you, I DIDNT WRITE THIS, A WOMAN DID…. but I do agree to a degree,” said the “Why You Wanna” rapper. “I’ve heard it,& seen this a million times over. Note to women: Happiness needs no validation….The Ego does. Most women out there nowadays just wanna be married to impress they friends, family (his side pieces) and fit into society’s standards. THAT’S NOT LOVE!!! That’s how you end up stuck with someone YOU THOUGHT YOU WANTED!!!! No matter what… Whatever you do…Do what you do to make YOU HAPPY!!! -The End.”
Tiny Harris was not here for T.I.’s point of view, and shared a video clip of Snoop Dogg where he’s seen and heard praising rappers who keep their wives “stable up top”. “Crown the KING who knows that his QUEEN is the most important piece on the board. #chessnotcheckers #CHECKMATE ,” she captioned the post.
Hours later, a video surfaced showing T.I. in a compromising position with Greenleaf actress and former American Idol contestant Asia’h Epperson. In the video, she’s seen cozying up with the rapper as he slaps her on the rear. Instagram commenters quickly made their way to her page to flood her with insults and labeled her a “home-wrecker. Epperson came online to defend herself while throwing shots at their marriage in the process. “A homewrecker I never would be. Not my style,” she expressed. “I’m into building baby!!! However, on another note… just so [you] know, u can’t wreck a wrecked home! Hey!!! IJS.”
Trust is a major part of any relationship, and perhaps the two need to work on that aspect. Tiny revealed once to her friend and bandmate Kandi on her Bravo show Kandi Koated Nights that she had once hired a private investigator to follow her husband and gather information after suspicions of cheating. “I definitely would recommend it. It is expensive, though. But it worked,” Harris said.
In the same episode, she addressed the cheating rumors with Floyd Mayweather, which also resulted in a physical altercation between the boxing champ and T.I. in Las Vegas. “I didn’t have any sex. He flirted with me,” she said. “I think that was fine. Everybody needs a little attention, especially if she ain’t getting it. If you ain’t giving it, she’s gonna go get it somewhere else.”
