Now that Tory Lanez has had charges filed against him, released an album and even had a Saturday Night Live performance dedicated to him, it might seem as if the walls are closing in around the Canadian rapper. After a tumultuous 2020 — on top of a pandemic, Lanez understandably may be feeling dark – or at least his Twitter feed seems to be.
While his career seems to have stalled, Megan Thee Stallion’s hasn’t. She was also featured recently on the cover of TIME magazine’s “TIME 100 List,” an achievement for any new artist. In addition to that, “Cardi B’s ‘WAP,’ featuring Megan Thee Stallion, ruled the first-ever Billboard Global 200 chart. The song lead with 100.9 million global streams and 23,000 global downloads sold in the week ending Sept. 10th” according to Billboard. “WAP” was also the most-streamed song of the week globally that week, beating BTS’ “Dynamite.”
The “Memories Don’t Die” singer had been at the receiving end of intense scrutiny from social media, fans, celebrities, and news media ever since the unfortunate incident.
Lanez was detained in the Hollywood Hills incident and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and then shocked fans by releasing a 17-track album called #DAYSTAR. Throughout the album the singer addresses his relationship with Megan Thee Stallion, also alleges he’s not responsible for the incident, and her team was trying to frame him.
With the charges that have been released by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, things have gotten considerably more perilous and his proclaimed innocence is about to be put to a major test.
He’s also endured plenty of fans turning against him after the incident as well, with someone creating a Change.org petition advocating for his deportation. The petition unfortunately has yet to reach its stated goal of 25,000 signatures.
It reads, “Deport Tory Lanez (Daystar Peterson) back to Canada and ban him from coming to America FOREVER. This little 5’3 man with a big ego has contributed nothing to the American Economy, and promotes violence and violence against women. Furthermore, he should be banned from the United States FOREVER for intentionally trying to harm Megan the Stallion. SEND HIM BACK TO CANADA ASAP!”
Lanez may be having a hard time legally and otherwise, but he seems to be generally taking it in stride, having returned back to social media. He’s continued to release music and interact with fans, even with the charges he faces hanging over his head. He may have gotten a little too comfortable today however, after he joked about his funeral plans in a tweet.
Hollywood Unlocked captured a screenshot of a now-deleted Tory Lanez tweet, in which he jokes about having someone at his funeral that monitors the door to allow people that Lanez only “f***ed” with inside of the service.
Even fellow rapper Waka Flocka Flame commented on the post, warning Lanez to “stop playing with death.”
