Though he started off as a comedian, Steve Harvey expanded his business into the talk show, author and film/TV. He’s had a successful run of books that deal with not only relationships but also being successful in life. One of his biggest successes which became a film of the same name, Act Like A Woman, Think Like A Man, went on to box office success and also established Steve as an expert on relationships.
Steve’s featured his own success in marriage to wife Marjorie Harvey in his projects. Though the two initially met in 1990, they did not end up getting married until 2007. Part of the reason for the long delay in between meeting and marriage was due to the fact that Steve was married at the time that they first initially met. The way they met could also be the reason that rumors of cheating have persisted over the years.
The couple have told their story of meeting before, with Steve doing standup at a comedy club in Memphis, TN. Steve claimed that Marjorie showed up to the show late and when she made her way to her seat on the front row, Steve just stopped the show and stared at her. He then apologized for the gap in the show, saying “I’m sorry, I don’t know who this is, but I’m going to marry her.”
And he did, after his second marriage ended. They reconnected in 2005 and after 2 years, married on June 25th, 2007. Looking back, Steve said that when Marjorie first came into his life, he was not yet settled with his career or finances. “Before a man can be of use to a woman … he’s got to know who he is, what he does, and how much he’s going to make,” Steve told Essence.
Their marriage also created a brand new, very large, blended family. Marjorie had been married previously and had 3 children already before she married Steve. Steve had 4 children from his past two marriages. One of their children, Lori Harvey, has also developed some internet fame of her own and has more than likely beat back her own Internet rumors with assistance from her famous stepfather and mother.
One of the views that Harvey espouses is that men cannot be friends with women, and it seems maybe he had taken some of his own advice when it came to his now current wife, Marjorie. In a previous interview with CNN, Steve insisted that most men have female friends because they’re really just trying to wait for their chance to approach them romantically.
“All my friends are men. I don’t have female friends. I don’t. I’m incapable of that,” Steve told host Fredericka Whitfield. When she asked if that was because he was married, Steve was quick to explain.
“Well, I have a wife and I don’t really have female friends because, look, okay – okay, let me tell you this. Let’s get rid of the myths. You’re an attractive woman. There’s some guy somewhere saying, yes, we’re friends. No, that’s not true.”
“He’s your friend only because you have made it absolutely clear that nothing else is happening except this friendship we have,” said Harvey. “We remain your friends in hopes that one day there will be a crack in the door, a chink in the armor,” he said.
“Trust and believe – that guy you think is just your buddy, he will slide in that crack the moment he gets the opportunity because we’re guys.”
