While the election has been called, certifications are pending and the Republicans lining up lawsuits, some would think there’s nothing to quite celebrate yet. But if you were watching and waiting all of last week for election results, chances are you are celebrating a Biden win, like Iggy Azalea was recently.
With support for both candidates from all kinds of celebrities emerging, it was the hip-hop stars and their varying levels of support that caused the most discussion this past election cycle. A bevy of Black stars came out in support for President Trump, a decision that was unexpected for many reasons.
Even earlier in the administration, it was a pattern that happened with a few stars who then went on to immediately regret it, sharing that the choice was a bad decision because it alienated their primary fan bases. Steve Harvey was one of those celebrities who admitted, after the fact, that he hated he even went to Trump Towers to meet with the then-new President.
At the time, Harvey was widely chastised for making the very public choice and taking the photo opportunity at the same time.
After some time, Steve realized that the choice took a hit on the ratings of all his shows during the ordeal: Family Feud, Little Big Shots, and his own self-titled talk show. Later, Harvey admitted to his error while discussing Colin Kaepernick and the NFL controversy on his syndicated radio show, “The Steve Harvey Morning Show.”
“Meeting with Donald Trump was the worst mistake of my life. I should have never gone up there.”
Singer John Legend took aim at all his fellow celebrities who supported Trump and the flimsy plans he rolled out and the falsehoods in it during his performance and speech on the final night of the Joe Biden campaign. It’s widely believed that he was speaking to Lil Wayne, as one of the biggest artists to come out in support of Trump right before the election.
“Some of your former favorite rappers have been taken in by these lies. I think they even founded a new supergroup; it’s called The Sunken Place. But Trump’s Platinum Plan for Black folks is nothing but fool’s gold, because you can’t bank on a word he says.”
Now we can add former manager of Gucci Mane and Waka’s mom to the list of Trump supporters who may reside in Legend’s “sunken place.” In a new promo for the upcoming season of Growing Up Hip-Hop, Deb Antney loudly proclaims her support for Trump.
Of course, there were plenty of celebrities who were celebrating the Biden win, including rappers Cardi B and Iggy Azalea. Cardi has been outspoken about politics from jump, even featuring a chat with then-Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and reaching her fans in a way that many never expected.
“I haven’t been fussing cause I know deep down we finna win. BIDENxKamala,” Cardi said on Instagram after posting a clip of Harris dancing to her song “I Like It.”
Add Iggy to that list, after she celebrated the Biden win by twerking and dancing to a Biden TikTok, which immediately went viral. Check out the clip of Iggy below.
