Rapper DMX was rushed to a hospital in New York Friday night following a reported OD, according to TMZ. Although there’s some brain activity, sources claim the rapper is in a ‘vegetative state’ and concerned he may not make it out.

For many years, DMX has struggled and has been open about his dark past. Appearing on Talib Kweli’s ‘People’s Party’ podcast, DMX emotionally revealed he was tricked into doing drugs at the age of 14 by a mentor he trusted, which would later define the rest of his life.
DMX began the story, saying he was at a birthday party with friends the moment it happened. “Everything in my life is blessed with a curse,” DMX stated. “I didn’t smoke cigarettes, I didn’t smoke weed, I didn’t do anything, 14 years old. He came back with a blunt rolled up. And as I’m counting the money, he passed the blunt.” Although X turned it down the first, the rapper revealed he changed his mind the second time to discover later it was laced. “I was no longer focused on the money. I’ve never felt like this. It just [messed] me up.”
In 2019, the rapper revealed to fans he was returning to rehab in a lengthy Instagram post. “In his ongoing commitment to putting family and sobriety first, DMX has checked himself into a rehab facility. He apologizes for his cancelled shows and thanks his fans for their continued support.
After returning from rehab, DMX returned to the stage. During a Las Vegas show the rapper shared his time in rehab with fans stating,
“When you fall down, get back up. Everyone here has been through some s***, and you never know what God is willing to do for you until you need him to do something for you.”
Since the news broke, many hip hop artists, including Missy Elliot and Rick Ross, have prayed for the rapper.

In a zoom call, DMX’s attorney, Murray Richman confirmed to PIX11 News the rapper did have a heart attack. “He has been taken off life support system and he’s breathing on his own, but we are concerned,” Richman said. “It would be disingenuous of me to suggest that I’m not a worried man at this particular point.”
