Woman Being Watched By The Feds After Receiving $20K PPP Loan, Launches GoFundMe To Pay It Back, Says She Has Three Kids And Can’t Go To Jail

The pandemic has forced the government to create different programs to help benefit those impacted most. Many people have lost their jobs indefinitely are are struggling to find new sources of income. As a result many are dipping into government funding they don’t actually qualify for. For one woman this could potential result in jail time.

Lakeisha Golden is currently asking for donations on GoFundMe to help pay back a paycheck protection program Loan (Or PPP Loan) that she took out to “provide for her family”. The $20,000 is now due back to the government, with some possible jail time as well if she’s not lucky.

The Paycheck Protection Program provides small businesses with funds to pay up to 8 weeks of payroll costs including benefits. Funds can also be used to pay interest on mortgages, rent, and utilities. Many people have taken out these loans despite not actually qualifying for them.

Its pretty bad, some have been able to scam millions out of the government. According to the United States Department of Justice official website, “Six individuals were charged in an indictment with fraudulently obtaining approximately $1.5 million in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans on behalf of five businesses based in Georgia and South Carolina. These individuals were allegedly part of a larger group that together have fraudulently obtained approximately $3.0 million in PPP loans. To date, authorities have recovered approximately $1,195,784.98 of the stolen money.”

They also elaborated on how the loan works. “The PPP allows qualifying small businesses and other organizations to receive loans with a maturity of two years and an interest rate of one percent. Businesses must use PPP loan proceeds for payroll costs, interest on mortgages, rent and utilities. The PPP allows the interest and principal to be forgiven if businesses spend the proceeds on these expenses within a set time period and use at least a certain percentage of the loan towards payroll expenses.”

At time of Lakeisha has managed to raise $3500 back. She had one generous person give her $1000. In her caption she says “I got 20k ppp loan now the feds after me plz help I can’t do jail!! I got 3 kids dat need me!!!”

Yesterday she commented “Keep the donations coming y’all my kids need me out here frfr”.

GoFundMe has been a go to for many this year. From Gorilla Glue Girl to the social media model trying to get home from All Star Weekend. Another woman is currently seeking help on GoFundMe for the same reason.
