‘You REALLY think You Got Trump To Agree To $500 Billion’: Roland Martin Tells Ice Cube He Got “Played” By Trump After Receiving Backlash For Meeting

Though nothing has been officially called as of yet in the 2020 US Election, it does seem to feel like after already winning the popular vote that Joe Biden might be the next President of the United States. If so, where does that leave the celebrities, especially Black ones, that have come out in support of Trump, a widely unpopular President?

Earlier in the administration, there was one prominent Black celebrity that took a meeting with the President at Trump Tower – Steve Harvey. At the time, Harvey was widely chastised for making the very public choice and taking the photo opportunity at the same time.

After some time, Steve realized that the choice took a hit on the ratings of all his shows during the ordeal: Family Feud, Little Big Shots, and his own self-titled talk show. Later, Harvey admitted to his error while discussing Colin Kaepernick and the NFL controversy on his syndicated radio show, “The Steve Harvey Morning Show.”

“Meeting with Donald Trump was the worst mistake of my life. I should have never gone up there.”

Ice Cube should have taken Steve’s advice, because ever since the administration came out with a tweet that said he’d been working with them on the so-called “Platinum Plan,” it’s been downhill for the rapper ever since then.

During his performance and speech on the final night of the Joe Biden campaign, John Legend took aim at who was widely to be rappers like Ice Cube and Lil Wayne, who came out in direct support of Trump right before the election.

“Some of your former favorite rappers have been taken in by these lies. I think they even founded a new supergroup; it’s called The Sunken Place. But Trump’s Platinum Plan for Black folks is nothing but fool’s gold, because you can’t bank on a word he says.”

With the decision looming mostly, another prominent Black media personality has called out Ice Cube directly via Twitter for how the Trump administration basically “played” the rapper and used him to try and drum up votes last minute – not to actually hear his ideas out. Cube took to Twitter once again to defend himself, and Roland Martin started responding to him directly in a lengthy thread.

Martin, in a 10 tweet thread, dismantled all of the reasons that Cube could have ostensibly had for supporting Trump and in a damning move, pointed out that Ice Cube didn’t even actually meet with Trump directly.

“I am 100% for Black folks making it clear that we are constituents who must be addressed by who is in power,” said Martin in one of his tweets. “But @icecube, you REALLY think you got Trump to agree to $500 billion when you said you never talked to him? Bruh, you talked to Jared Kushner.”

Cube has been consistently dragged for his so-called support, but not direct endorsement, of the President. It seemed he had reached his own limit with the issue with the tweet that triggered Martin’s diatribe against him in the first place.

“Let me get this straight, I get the president of the United States to agree to put over half a trillion dollars of capital in the Black Community (without an endorsement) and Ni***as are mad at me?😂😂😂…have a nice life.”
